Cobb), and you may a good scuffling celebrity (Evelyn Keyes) whoever cousin (Nina Foch) worked within casino and you may old an excellent corrupt investigator (Jim Bannon). The newest caustically epigrammatic script, the fresh new cast’s suavely managed body language of like and you may hazard, and you will Rossen’s thrillingly restrained and you may stylishly assertive images (in addition to his political conscience) get this to pugnacious but really outlined spectacle an invisible vintage of one’s style.” [ ten ]

Its primarily a point of watching Mr. Powell undergo his paces smartly when you’re an enormous throw regarding stars and you can stars promote your conventional help. Evelyn Keyes takes on the favorable little woman which brings out new best in him and you will Ellen Drew ‘s the sleek and you will slinky vixen just who becomes him into the jams.
